For anyone who is considering upgrading their home entertainment system over the next few months, it would be hard to ignore the addition of different types of 3D tv sets which have entered the market. Once the subject of science fiction, even just 10 years ago, they are now a reality available to one and all.
The question is - Are they worth buying now? The short answer to that is yes! Short answers are perhaps not quite good enough, so here are some more compelling reasons!
Firstly, Hollywood has been making films in 3D for a couple of years now. These have increased the number of cinema visitors who enjoy the extra entertainment value. Some of these films are completely in 3D, whilst others have 3D segments and great recent releases include Avatar and the fourth film in the Resident Evil series. These are now available on DVD and Blu Ray, and make for excellent watching on a 3D tv.
Secondly, Sky have started introducing some sporting events in 3D. For football fans, seeing a free kick or goal in 3D is simply amazing, and adds quite literally a whole new dimension. Sky are adding more and more sports over the coming months, which could make the Olympics in 2012 very interesting indeed.
Thirdly, the gaming industry is catching up to 3D. Expect to see Wii consoles and games designed and written specifically for 3D use, along with the other major console developers. So, for those people considering new purchases for their home entertainment systems, 3D TV's will make a good investment for the future.
